FAQ

So what exactly is a neem?

Neem (Azadirachta indica) is a tropical tree native to India and other tropical countries. Some of the world’s oldest writings – the Vedas that form the basis of the ancient Ayurvedic health system – detail the use of neem as a medicinal herb. Researchers around the world continue to document its healing properties in an enormous variety of uses including oral care

Why does my mouth need antioxidants?

Antioxidants are natural substances, often found in plant materials, which combat the free radicals that have been implicated in age-related issues like heart disease and Alzheimer’s. Free radicals are created as the natural byproduct of your body metabolizing oxygen, as well as your body’s response to environmental toxins like bacteria, cigarette smoke and alcohol. They are unstable molecules that transfer electrons from cell to cell, potentially starting a chain reaction that damages other cells in a process called oxidative stress.

Several international studies have shown a direct correlation between levels of the antioxidant glutathione and periodontal disease, although they have not shown that low levels of antioxidants directly cause the problems. Higher levels of glutathione have been shown to promote the growth of healthy cells and support your body’s response to minor inflammation.

Neem contains several key antioxidants including glutathione, quercetin and rutin. The levels of antioxidants in various plants is measured in a test called the Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity – usually known as ORAC. Neem bark has an ORAC score of nearly 500, compared to broccoli at 15, blueberries at 62 and goji berries at 253.

What about the other ingredients?

Each of the ingredients in the OxiNeem family has been carefully selected to boost oral health in great-tasting, easy-to-use formulations.

  • Xylitol is an all-natural tooth-friendly sweetener made from fruits, vegetables and trees. It raises the pH in saliva so it’s less acidic and may inhibit the growth of some bacteria.
  • Baking soda has been used in oral care products for centuries. It is a gentle abrasive that scrubs and brightens teeth safely and naturally.
  • Cinnamon & cloves are traditionally used to freshen breath. They contain extremely high levels of antioxidants and work synergistically with the neem bark.
  • Peppermint also freshens breath and contains high levels of antioxidants.
